Or something along those lines anyway. Yeah thanks. To be honest, I fucking hate pumpkins...

However... last night, I was having a bit of a sort out and I found some CD's under my bed. From like when I was a wee teen. This discovery didn't bring much joy as it basically consisted of Blink 182, a Manic's single (not too bad...), Will Smith (what was I thinking?) and oh... hmmm... 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness' by the Smashing Pumpkins.

I wasn't bothered at first but I had a bit of a listen to '1979' and it reminded me instantly of when I was in high school. When music was good... even American shit... like Beck! When MTV was good, when it was about music rather than pimping someones ride or looking round some rich twat's gaff. When being a soft shit, like the James Blunts and Jack Johnsons of today, would have got you nowhere back then. You had to have something worthwhile to say. Well I hear on the grapevine that the Smashing Pumpkins are writing some new stuff. Yay. Oh and pardon the, um, French.

1979
Shakedown 1979, cool kids never have the time
On a live wire right up off the street
You and I should meet
June bug skipping like a stone
With the headlights pointed at the dawn
We were sure we'd never see an end to it all

And I don't even care to shake these zipper blues
And we don't know just where our bones will rest
To dust I guess
Forgotten and absorbed into the earth below

Double cross the vacant and the bored
They're not sure just what we have in the store
Morphine city slippin' dues, down to see that

We don't even care, as restless as we are
We feel the pull in the land of a thousand guilts
And poured cement, lamented and assured
To the lights and towns below
Faster than the speed of sound
Faster than we thought we'd go, beneath the sound of hope

Justine never knew the rules
Hung down with the freaks and the ghouls
No apologies ever need be made
I know you better than you fake it, to see

The street heats the urgency of sound
As you can see there's no one around
